How is Cyber Monday different to Black Friday?

Being an online-only shopping event, it’s fair to say that you can find amazing discounts at even more retailers on Cyber Monday. While Black Friday sees department store giants ruling the high streets with eye-catching sales, Cyber Monday gives smaller, online-based retailers the chance to shine.

Plus, Cyber Monday deals tend to last just 24 hours compared to Black Friday sales that last around five to seven days. What does this mean for bargain-hungry shoppers? With less time to get your hands on the best savings, it’s crucial to plan ahead.

Bookmark your favourite stores so you’re ready to go as soon as the clock strikes twelve. Don’t forget to make accounts ahead of time to make for a seamless checkout, as well as following your favourite brands on social media to keep up to date with deals.

When did Cyber Monday start?

The term was first heard back in 2005, when Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation in the US issued a press release titled: "Cyber Monday Quickly Becoming One of the Biggest Online Shopping Days of the Year".

The press release cited research stating that almost 80 per cent of online retailers in the US had noticed a substantial increase in sales on the Monday following Thanksgiving. In turn, this increase led to more and more online retailers to offer discounts and deals to shoppers.
